Delta-Continental Rumors Spur Further Talk of Airline Consolidation.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 19--Northwest Airlines, which must bless any deal for another carrier to buy Houston-based Continental, doesn't want Delta to merge with Continental.
Asked if Northwest is interested in letting Delta Air Lines make a run for Continental Airlines and what Northwest would want in return, Doug Steenland, Northwest's chief corporate officer and an executive vice president, simply said, "We're not interested in that."
Steenland, talking to reporters during a conference call Thursday, made his comments as consumers and industry watchers wait to see if Northwest, Continental and Delta take action in response to planned mergers involving other airlines.
Delta is considered a potential suitor for Continental, Houston's largest employer.
