Jan. 21--SUN STUDY COULD REMAKE WORKPLACE: When Sun Microsystems Inc. was planning its Menlo Park campus in 1990, a small group headed by Eric Richert began studying how company employees interact with the facilities they work in.

That effort, which now involves dozens of people and pilot programs with hundreds of Sun employees, is changing where and how Sun's 40,000 employees work. If the program achieves its two main goals of helping Sun attract and retain talented people and of increasing their productivity, it could be a model for large high-tech companies worldwide.
