Chrysler Halts Plan for Financial Center in Auburn Hills, Mich.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 27--In another sign of the squeezed financial position at the Chrysler Group, DaimlerChrysler AG has halted plans for a $100-million financial-services headquarters in Auburn Hills that would have merged Chrysler Financial and Mercedes-Benz Credit of North America.

The building, which was to be built just north of the Daimler-Chrysler Technical Center on the automaker's campus, would have brought together up to 1,500 employees from across the country.

Instead, the project has been delayed indefinitely.

"The financial services group understands the difficult financial position we are in so they put these plans on hold. They don't know when or if they are going to continue the plan to build the headquarters," said DaimlerChrysler...
