Feb. 11--PROBLEM: RELATIONSHIP OF INFLATION AND T-BILL RATES: I am nearing retirement and saw a financial planner last year. In the course of his analysis, he showed me various scenarios of how long my investments would provide for my needed income, based upon a conservative 7 percent investment return and inflation rates of 3 percent to 6 percent. It's scary if you look at 5 percent or 6 percent. I have reflected that in my experience as inflation rates rise, so do fixed-income investment returns, at least those with short terms such as CDs and T-bills. It seems I should be more concerned with the potential spread between fixed income returns and interest rates. Can you tell me how these...
