AT&T Lays Off 450 Cable, Internet Employees in Washington State.

Feb. 16--AT&T laid off 450 workers Thursday, about 13 percent of its cable and Internet operations in Washington state, as part of a cost-cutting campaign.
The telecommunications company has spent the past several years upgrading its cable television network to offer customers digital television, Internet service and telephone lines. About 75 percent of the upgrade has been completed statewide, AT&T spokesman Steve Kipp said.
"A lot of this makes sense in that it's a necessary shift from the construction to more controlled growth," Kipp said.
