Microsoft Incursion Fails to Daunt Streaming Media Company.

Feb. 22--SEATTLE--With the world's biggest software maker breathing down his neck, RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser is often asked if his company is about to be "Netscaped."

But Glaser, a former Microsoft vice president, isn't daunted. "It's a source of amusement," he said. "I remember in all the years I was at Microsoft people would say, `Hey Microsoft, you're going to get crushed by IBM, aren't you?'"

Some analysts have been offering a similar prognosis for RealNetworks lately, as its rival across Lake Washington sets its sights on a market Glaser practically created when he pioneered the concept of streaming media six years ago. Microsoft now sees multimedia...
