Hooters Restaurant Drops Plans to Build Franchise in State College, Pa.

Feb. 2--STATE COLLEGE, Pa.--Hooters Restaurant chain won't open a franchise on East College Avenue.

Hooters project manager Jeff Haas said in a release faxed to the Centre Daily Times on Thursday that he was bowing to "the wishes of the community" in his decision not to go forward with the restaurant.

"The State College area community has spoken loudly over the last several months," Haas wrote in the release. "Even though I had invested lots of time and money in the project, I have decided not to go against the wishes of the community."

Borough council President Janet Knauer was elated when told of Haas' decision.
