Mar. 14--ELECTRIC DEREGULATION PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY FOR START-UP: One utility's electricity may be just like another's, but their computer databases are a different matter.

As the electricity industry deregulates in Texas and elsewhere, providers will have to reconcile a lot of basic data with one another, including billing and address information, meter readings and usage history.

Often, in this traditionally staid business, that can be a huge challenge because utilities use a wide variety of computer systems, many of which date back to the 1970s.
