Florida Senate Leaders Reject Tax Breaks.

Mar. 15--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--In a move that sets them on a collision course with the House and Gov. Jeb Bush, Senate leaders on Wednesday rejected more than $300 million in proposed tax breaks because they rob much-needed money from schools and social service programs.
Coming in only the second week of the legislative session, it may be the deepest political fissure to emerge in the three years since Republicans won control of the state House, Senate and governor's mansion for the first time since Reconstruction.
But Senate President John McKay said the decision is merely a product of tougher economic times and a slowdown in the state's expected revenue growth.
