California Agricultural Operations Begin Barring Foreign Visitors.

Mar. 16--California's giant agricultural industry, determined to keep foot-and-mouth disease from spreading here, has begun to bar foreign visitors from its farms and cheese plants.

Popular visitor sites in the Central Valley such as the Hilmar Cheese Co. and Harris Ranch, one of the state's largest agribusinesses, Thursday implemented "bio security" policies that would ban or restrict international visitors.

For Hilmar Cheese, the world's largest single-site cheese producer, the new policy meant canceling scheduled visits over the next month by agricultural delegations from France and Switzerland.
