California's Avocado Growers in Strong Financial Position.

Mar. 19--Avocado growers are seeing plenty of green lately, from fresh fruit to guacamole to cash, and all of it reflected in a record year for Calavo Growers of California.

The grower-owned cooperative reported its most successful year ever in revenues, volume and payment to its members.

Calavo's posted revenues of $225 million in 2000 -- topping its previous record-setting total of $181.5 million in 1999.

As the world's largest supplier of fresh and processed avocados, Calavo has 1,600 members total and roughly 450 in Ventura County. It reports to have a 37 percent share of the California avocado market and has operations in Santa Paula, Temecula...
