Mar. 24--BEAVERCREEK, Ohio--Local SAIC engineers say they're tapping their in-house aerospace expertise and technology from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to get into the growing telematics market.
Telematics uses wireless data and voice communications and satellite navigation to link roving vehicles to customer service or fleet management centers.
The best-known example is Onstar, the two-way wireless link now available in many General Motors cars. Onstar can automatically report an accident if a car's air bag pops, or a driver can call a customer center for roadside help. The customer center can even unlock the car if a motorist leaves his keys inside....
