Gossip Is Good, British Psychologists Say.

Mar. 24--Office gossip is good.

That's the word from the British Psychological Society, which bases its opinion on recent research that looked into the value of chatting around the water cooler, in the lunchroom or out on the curb during a smoking break.

"Gossip can act as a great stress reliever," says Kathryn Waddington, a senior lecturer in psychology at City University of London. Waddington wrote the report along with University of London business psychology professor Clive Fletcher.

Quoted in the "Guardian of London," Fletcher said gossip cuts across classes and hierarchies, encouraging improved relations between both bosses and manager.
