NASA Seeks Money from Space Station Partners in Europe.

Apr. 5--WASHINGTON--NASA, strapped for cash and facing increased pressure from the Bush administration, is trying to persuade its European allies to help bail out the international space station.
NASA administrator Dan Goldin told the House Science Committee on Wednesday that he is talking to Italy about building the living quarters and to the European Space Agency about providing an escape pod. The United States can't afford those amenities otherwise, Goldin said. The station is yet another $4 billion over budget, NASA announced earlier this year, after 17 years of red ink.
