Builders Expect Home Construction To Slow in El Paso County, Colo.

Apr. 3--Construction began on more single-family homes in El Paso County during the first three months of 2001 than during any similar period in history, but home builders don't expect this record pace to hold up over the rest of the year.
Builders and economists warn the local housing industry's momentum probably will slow, as layoffs, sagging consumer confidence and other national economic woes trickle into the Pikes Peak region. As it is, the houses being started now reflect demand of three to four months ago, when the national economy was stronger.
Still, rooftops are going up at a frantic pace.
