Wilton, N.H., Telephone Firm Jeopardized by New State Utilities Action.

Apr. 6--WILTON, N.H.-An ongoing financial dispute between state regulators and the Wilton and Hollis telephone companies threatens the future of the century-old independent firms, according to paperwork filed at Hillsborough County Superior Court.

The Public Utilities Commission, which regulates telephone companies in New Hampshire, has ordered the jointly operated firms to appear before it and "show why . . . the companies' authority to engage in business in New Hampshire should not be withdrawn" because they allegedly failed to follow through on portions of a 1999 agreement that stemmed from overcharges to customers.
