Florida Leaders Celebrate New Federal Funding for Health Care Programs.

Apr. 6--Florida's overstretched health care budget got a dose of good news Thursday when Gov. Jeb Bush announced $159 million extra coming from Washington.

The money comes in the form of Medicaid "waivers" to pay for indigent care in hospitals, residential treatment facilities for the elderly and a pilot prescription drug program.

While Bush and House and Senate leaders welcome the federal money, it won't have much effect on the state's 2001-2002 budget that currently is being negotiated between the two houses.
