Dell, Compaq Call Off Showcase Events.

Apr. 13--It was an annual late summer event that brought thousands of Dell Computer Corp. customers together with Dell executives and managers in a confab meant to encourage bonhomie and, of course, boost business.
But it's over, for now at least. No more shrimp or free cocktails or private shows by famous Texas crooners.
DirectConnect, a play off of Dell Direct, the Austin computer giant's business-model-turned-branding-phrase, has been scratched off the calendar for what would have been the third annual event.
