Nevada Legislative Commuttees Pass Renewable Energy Bills.

Apr. 17--Legislative committees Monday passed companion bills that would require Nevada Power Co. and Sierra Pacific Power Co. to buy up to 15 percent of their electricity from solar, wind and other renewable resources.

The Senate Commerce and Labor Committee voted 6-1 to pass Senate Bill 372 with Sen. Ann O'Connell dissenting. Also, the Assembly Select Energy Committee unanimously amended and passed AB418 without a recommendation.

"We believe that renewable energy can be a very reliable and economic addition to our state energy mix," said Tim Hay, state consumer advocate. He testified for the legislation.
