Florida Lowers Rates Alternative Phone Companies Must Pay BellSouth.

Apr. 19--The Florida Public Service Commission gave the state's alternative phone companies a break Wednesday, deciding to lower many of the rates they must pay BellSouth Corp. to use the giant provider's telecommunications network.
In a marathon session in Tallahassee, the commission reviewed a 632-page staff rate-setting recommendation and repeatedly decided to reduce rates. Though telecommunications companies won't know what the revisions will be until they run computations, they declared victory.
