Commission Approves Rate Increase for South Carolina Electric & Gas.

Apr. 25--South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. got the go-ahead Tuesday to offset rising fuel costs by raising power rates.
The state Public Service Commission approved an increase that will work out to $2.50 a month for the typical SCE&G residential customer.
The higher rate will show up on the utility's May bills. It will bring the monthly cost for customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity to $80.47, said Gary Walsh, the commission's executive director.
SCE&G serves 537,000 power customers, mostly in the Lowcountry and Midland counties.
