May 2--SALEM, Ore.-- Lawmakers, who are growing increasingly uncomfortable with the state's impending march toward deregulation of the electricity market, launched two efforts Tuesday to halt the experiment before it starts.

Republican House leaders managed to squelch one such bid, but they will have to spend the next few days trying to prevent a floor vote on a bill that won majority approval in a committee vote Tuesday evening.
