Spirit Airlines Is Eager for Expansion at Detroit Metro Airport.

May 16--Northwest Airlines isn't the only carrier anticipating the completion of the new midfield terminal at Detroit Metro Airport.
Ned Homfeld, founder and chairman of discount carrier Spirit Airlines, said Tuesday Spirit eagerly awaits Northwest's move into the $1.2-billion terminal, which should be ready in December. That will free up gates in Metro's existing concourses, giving Spirit more room.
As a discount carrier, Spirit helps keep fares low on routes such as Detroit to Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando in Florida and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. But Metro has been so crammed with airlines and passengers that for years Spirit's agents had to beg other...
