Seattle-Based RealNetworks to Provide Streaming Media for Sony's PlayStation 2.

May 16--Seattle-based RealNetworks is expected to announce a partnership today with Sony Entertainment to provide streaming and downloadable media on the popular PlayStation 2 video-game console.

Sony will first include RealNetworks tools in its software-development kit, so game developers can incorporate RealPlayer -- software that plays audio and video via the Internet -- into future games.

The companies did not say when the service will be available to consumers.

The partnership is not exclusive. Financial terms were not disclosed.
