May 16--FORT WORTH, Texas--Cross Timbers Oil Co. bowed to the reality of its own operations Tuesday and changed the company's name.
Chairman Bob R. Simpson told shareholders at the company's annual meeting in Fort Worth that the publicly owned Fort Worth energy firm will be known as XTO Energy.
The company derives almost 80 percent of its revenue and profit from exploration for and production of natural gas, and XTO is the company's stock market ticker symbol.
