Oklahoma Legislators Agree to Delay Electricity Deregulation.

May 22--Legislative conferees Friday signed out a bill designed to delay electricity deregulation in Oklahoma until at least 2003 and create a blue ribbon task force to advise the 2003 Legislature on deregulation.

Senate author Kevin Easley, D-Broken Arrow, said he thinks the Senate will vote on the measure Monday.

Approval by the Senate would send it to the House where another Easley deregulation bill failed on the final day of the 2000 session after winning acceptance in the Senate.

Deregulation is intended to encourage competition among electric providers within the state and permit consumers to choose their electricity provider.
