Ford's Tire-Recall Plans Puts Orlando, Fla.-Area Dealers on Alert.

May 25--The decision by Ford Motor Co. to replace about 13 million Firestone tires used mostly on sport-utility vehicles has put dealerships around Osceola County in a state of alert.

Gateway Ford on U.S. Highway 192 usually opens around 7:30 each morning but on Wednesday, after news of the replacement spread, workers began fielding calls from customers as early as 6:45 a.m.

Ford, the world's second largest automaker, ordered the replacement months after reports that Firestone tires on Ford SUVs were causing accidents. At least 174 deaths have been linked to traffic accidents with Explorers and Firestone tires in the United States.
