Boston Court Rules Against Massachusetts High-Tech Firm.

Jun. 1--A Boston federal court has ruled that a Massachusetts high-tech company illegally forced older workers seeking to collect severance pay or retirement packages to waive their right to file age bias claims against the company.

The court ruled that Bull HN Information Systems of Billerica violated the Older Worker Benefit Protection Act when it failed to give the workers information on the ages and job titles of all other employees targeted for layoffs or retained.

In a related action, the court sent to a jury for trial the issue of whether Bull should have offered workers age 40 and older extra compensation for waiving their right to file age discrimination...
