Jun. 20--Dole Food Co. Inc. (NYSE: DOL) expects to exceed Wall Street estimates for earnings during the fiscal second quarter thanks to improved banana and fresh pineapple sales and significant cost-cutting efforts, the Westlake Village-based company reported Monday.
The company expects second-quarter net income of $34 million to $37 million, or 61 to 66 cents per share.
Estimated second quarter net income includes an $8 million pre-tax gain related to the sale of investments and about $30 million of pre-tax expense primarily related to asset write-downs due to the shutdown and asset sales of the company's California deciduous and Northwest apples businesses.
