Jun. 26--RUDDICK SELLS HARRIS TEETER STORES IN S.C., GEORGIA: Charlotte's Ruddick Corp. said Monday it sold most of its Harris Teeter grocery stores in Georgia to Kroger Co. Kroger bought 15 Harris Teeter locations, most of them in Atlanta. Kroger officials were unavailable for comment. Harris Teeter has long struggled to gain a foothold in the Atlanta market, dominated by Cincinnati-based Kroger and Publix Super Markets Inc. of Lakeland, Fla.
Harris Teeter also is selling 12 stores in South Carolina in Greenville, Spartanburg, Myrtle Beach, Litchfield Beach and Columbia. The company, which lists 23 S.C. locations on its Web sites, did not disclose the buyers.
