Kansas City, Mo.-Based Energy Firm Executives Argue against Price Controls.

Jun. 29--WASHINGTON--Though facing an uphill fight with the takeover of the Senate by Democrats, executives of Kansas City-based UtiliCorp United Inc. are asking lawmakers to pursue a national energy policy, not price controls, to contain energy costs.

UtiliCorp officials met this week with some members of Congress from the seven states it serves to lobby for a national energy policy, chiefly one that would allow power to be more easily transmitted to all parts of the country.

"That will increase competition and drive prices down more quickly and in the longer term than will any price caps," Robert K. Green, president and chief operating officer, told reporters...
