OPINION: Barclays May Unleash Battle in British Banking Market.

Jun. 29--Barclays is about to unleash some firepower from its Woolwich arsenal that could spark battle royal in the banking market, much to consumers' gain.
The bank, latterly vilified for branch closures, cash machine charges and bloated executive pay, is attempting to reinvent itself as the consumer's champion.
Former Woolwich boss John Stewart, who became number two to chief executive Matt Barrett when Barclays took over last year, plans to revolutionise the group's High Street banking. In autumn he rolls out his brainchild, the Woolwich's so-called "integrated account," Open Plan, to Barclays current account customers.
