Jul. 3--Several local stocks in recent trading have sent eyebrows arching along with their rising prices.
Prices of AMC Entertainment Inc., Butler Manufacturing Co., Interstate Bakeries Corp., Kansas City Power & Light Co. and H&R Block Inc. bear some explaining because there wasn't always news at the companies.
AMC Entertainment is rebuilding its network of theaters. The restructuring of a stock index probably was responsible for a spike in AMC's price at the close of trading Friday. A large block of AMC shares changed hands at the close, at $13 a share. Previous trades were at $11.11, and the 428,700-share trade obviously was a special-situation transaction....
