German Semiconductor Maker Seizes Opportunity in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Jul. 8--X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries recent decision to purchase a chip-manufacturing plant in Colorado Springs hinged on timing -- an irony considering that many executives believe now is definitely not a good time to spend cash on expansion.

Last month, X-FAB, a German company that manufactures semiconductors for other businesses, announced its plans to buy LSI Logic Corp.'s 239,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in the Springs for $120 million.

Milpitas, Calif.-based LSI announced in April that it would close the 500-employee plant, 1635 Aeroplaza Drive, by August to reduce expenses and consolidate its operations.
