Court's Ruling Enriches Bankrupt Las Vegas Hotel's Lawyers.

Jul. 7--Thanks to a decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Friday, lawyers for the bankrupt Debbie Reynolds Hotel ended the week $50,000 richer.
By overruling an earlier ruling in Debbie Reynolds v. Calstar Corp., the court of appeals restored the bankruptcy court's fee award to the Las Vegas law firm of Mangels, Butler, Marmaro & Reilly.
The imbroglio began in 1998, after the hotel had been sold at a bankruptcy court auction. Attorneys for the bankrupt hotel promised Resort Funding Inc., a secured creditor of the Debbie Reynolds, not to challenge its claims. In exchange, RFI agreed to pay the law firm's fees to ensure the hotel could keep...
