Jul. 17--Sam pads along beneath the knees of his admiring and often uninformed public, never giving his smile or his nose a rest.
Outfitted in a smart green vest, he's just about the happiest federal worker on four legs, and he knows how to work a crowd at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
As the veteran snoop weaves around the shinbones of hundreds of incoming international travelers, sniffing their baggage and boxes for contraband, he's routinely mistaken as a canine drug-detector.
But Sam's mission, with about 65 other dogs in the Department of Agriculture's growing Beagle Brigade, is to ferret out food and other material that can harbor foreign...
