Dell to Debut Line of Network Switches.

Jul. 19--Dell Computer Corp. said Wednesday that it will introduce a line of network switches for small and medium-size business customers in the late summer or early fall.

The Austin-based company said it's entering a niche in the switching market that's become standardized and simplified, which plays to the company's direct-sales model. That model enables Dell to price its products lower than other players because it avoids the sales channel.

A network switch sends information from a server or desktop directly to the computer for which it is intended, without broadcasting it to all systems on the network. Dell will sell its products under the PowerConnect...
