PNC Launches Effort to Enlist Mellon Customers.

Jul. 19--PNC Financial Services Group wasted little time in its effort to woo Mellon Bank customers in the wake of Tuesday's announcement that Mellon Financial Corp. is selling its consumer banking operations to Rhode Island-based Citizens Financial Group Inc.
On the home page of its Internet site, PNC carries a link titled "Mellon Customers Click Here," inviting surfers to explore the company's checking and savings account plans.
The marketing tactic is the first salvo in what could be a small-scale war among Pennsylvania banks for Mellon's customers.
