San Francisco Newspaper Suspends Sports Columnist.

Jul. 19--The San Francisco Chronicle has suspended without pay sports columnist Tom FitzGerald, claiming he plagiarized other newspapers three times since March.

FitzGerald, who has written the column for 12 years, first came under suspicion last week when a reader complained that an item in his June 12 column on hockey player Ray Bourque was almost the same as that published a day before in the Boston Globe, the Chronicle said.

Further investigation turned up two other examples in which FitzGerald allegedly used other people's work without proper attribution. The investigation continues, the paper said.
