Aug. 7--Like most major cities, Bangkok is exciting, innovative and glamorous. Yet, residents of Bangkok, especially the growing middle-class and nouveau riche are moving out to single detached houses in the suburbs. Some developers have tried to entice them to buy apartments in the city but they have not been very successful. The segment of high-rise apartments is the biggest laggard in Bangkok's overbuilt property market.
The reason for the shift to the suburbs is quite universal as people aspire to own a house and land in pleasant surroundings. But in Bangkok the best schools and lifestyle activities remain in the city centre, to which suburban dwellers subject...
