Belgian Beer Company to Buy Germany-Based Brand Beck's.

Aug. 6--Belgian beer group Interbrew has won the international beer battle to buy privately-owned German beer brand Beck's in a deal worth Dm3.5 billion (UKpound 1.1 billion), writes Malcolm Withers.

The Belgians have beaten off Scottish & Newcastle and Anheuser-Busch, the US brewer of Budweiser.

Interbrew won exclusive negotiating rights when it submitted a bid worth UKpound 1 billion three weeks ago. Brauerei Beck had hired Goldman Sachs at the beginning of June to carry out a strategic review of all its options ranging from alliances or joint ventures to outright acquisition.
