Spirit Airlines Expected to Add Flights to Puerto Rico.

Aug. 9--Spirit Airlines is expected to launch flights to Puerto Rico this November, taking on American Airlines which has a strong grip on the South Florida market.

Offering one-way fares as low as $99, Spirit will begin service on Nov. 8 with two daily flights that start in Newark and continue through Fort Lauderdale to San Juan. Spirit, which is based in Miramar, recently added Oakland, Calif., to its route map. It has service to 14 cities.

Also on Nov. 8, Spirit is scheduled to resume seasonal flights from Palm Beach International Airport. Spirit pulled out of the airport in May, shifting its three daily flights to Fort Lauderdale. When service resumes, there...
