DuPont to Back New York Company in Creation of Tiny Fuel Cell.

Aug. 8--International chemical conglomerate DuPont will back Mechanical Technology Inc.'s efforts to make a tiny fuel cell for use in portable electronic devices.

DuPont will take a minority stake in MTI's fuel-cell development program, although the size of its investment was not disclosed. The Delaware-based company also will supply membranes and other components for MTI's cells.

"I think this is really, really an important step for our company," said William Acker, MTI's president.
