Navy Supply-Ship Job Raises Hopes for More Repair Work in Philadelphia.

Aug. 15--The Navy's USS Supply arrived in Philadelphia yesterday for $5 million worth of modifications, bringing with it hopes of an expanded ship-repair business on the Delaware River.

The 754-foot-long fast combat support ship is being converted from Navy warship status to Military Sealift Command status. The sealift command is a Navy unit that transports supplies such as fuel, equipment and ammunition for all branches of the military.

Metro Machine Corp., which has repair yards in Philadelphia and Norfolk, Va., has been maintaining the USS Supply since it went into service in 1994.
