Tacoma, Wash.-Area College Students Likely to Pay for High Power Bills.

Aug. 15--The University of Washington and other colleges are raising fees and cutting costs to help pay skyrocketing electric bills.

The UW Board of Regents today is expected to impose a $3-per-credit fee on students at the Seattle campus this fall to help pay utility bills that may be $8 million higher than they were last year.

The fee will mean an extra $135 a year for a full-time student who takes 15 credits a quarter at the main campus.

Students at the UW Tacoma will pay a smaller surcharge -- an extra $1 per credit, or $45 a year.
