Bus Agency to Start Taxi Service in Bangkok.

Aug. 23--Bangkok's public transport operator is launching a taxi service in the hope of offsetting some of the losses sustained by its buses.

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority would launch the new service on Oct 1, said Phiraphong Isarabhakdi, the director of the state enterprise.

However, Chamnan Ingsrisawang, chairman of Bangkok Taxi Co-operatives, warned that the taxi service would only worsen the agency's losses in an already saturated market. Bangkok has at least 60,000 registered taxis.
