Bush Administration to Push for Pentagon Budget Increase, Rumsfeld Says.

Aug. 24--WASHINGTON--The Bush administration will push Congress to approve "every nickel" of a proposed $18.4 billion Pentagon budget increase for 2002, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld said Thursday.
Rumsfeld conceded the Bush administration would have a "busy time" winning support for the increase, but said he believed most members of Congress would vote for it. He made the comments at a news conference a day after updated budget figures showed the federal budget surplus outside Social Security had virtually disappeared because of the economic slowdown and Bush's 10-year $1.35 trillion tax cut.
