LTV Subsidiary VP Buildings Cuts 46 Jobs in Kernersville, N.C.

Aug. 23--KERNERSVILLE, N.C.--VP Buildings Inc. is in the process of laying off 46 employees, or 15 percent of the workers at its Kernersville plant, a company official said yesterday.

Geoff Miller, the senior vice president of human resources with VP at its headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., said yesterday that the layoffs are because of a slowdown in business.

At the end of July, 310 people were employed at the plant, he said. Employees began receiving news of the layoffs Tuesday, with the notifications continuing yesterday and today, he said. VP, the second-largest U.S. manufacturer of pre-engineered, low-rise commercial steel buildings, was acquired by LTV Corp....
