Disney Abandons Ship on 6 Dock Jobs.

Sep. 7--In another cost-cutting move at Walt Disney World, Epcot has eliminated most of the workers who used to tie and untie the attraction's 100-passenger Friendship Boats to the docks.

Some of the eight boats' captains and crew members complain that now, they must step on and off the boats at frequent dockings to secure and loosen the vessels with rope. That's not safe, they say.

The boats ferry visitors to four stops in the World Showcase Lagoon and to Disney's Boardwalk, MGM Studios and the Yacht & Beach Club Resort near the Swan and Dolphin hotels.

On Wednesday afternoon, a dock hand was present at only one of the stops.
