Sep. 18--Residential customers of West Virginia-American Water Co. would pay an average of $1.72 a month more for water under a tentative settlement of the water company's much larger rate-hike request, state regulators said Monday.
Meanwhile, regulators from the state Public Service Commission said they will make sure the proposed sale of the parent of the state's largest water company to a German corporation is in the best interest of West Virginians.
Officials of American Water Works, based in Vorhees, N.J., said Monday they have agreed to sell the company to RWE AG of Essen, Germany, for $7.6 billion.
